SMALL HISTORICAL TOWNS AND THE OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE CREATIVE CULTURAL TOURISM PRODUCTS IN AZERBAIJAN (THE CASE OF SHUSHA CITY)

Annotation. The article examines the directions of turning cultural, natural, ethnocultural heritage into an international tourism product, the role of small historical cities in the tourism market, the concepts of culture and creativity, and the development trend in global tourism. Recent trends in the transformation of cultural heritage into a tourism product and the analysis of literature shows that using new approaches in global tourism and the introduction of cultures to visitors with addressing different ways may ensure the sustainability in this field. The article reveals the possibilities for transforming creative culture into a tourism product, the advantages of presenting creativity and craftsmanship in new ways and manner. As the factors that are considered to promote the development of creative industry, foster event tourism and transform mass events into a tourism product, the followings are proposed and analyzed: presenting the city of Shusha in compliance with the concept of a small historical city; building the new tourism corridors; and supporting the international tourist flows and craft centers.
