DISTRIBUTION OF RURAL POPULATION AND PROBLEMS OF ITS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN THE LANKARAN-ASTARA ECONOMIC-GEOGRAPHICAL REGION

Abstract. Rural settlements play a very important role in the demographic development of Lankaran-Astara economic region. Rural population density in the economic region is relatively higher and uneven in the territory. For Lankaran-Astara economic region which shares borders with neighboring countries, preserving and strengthening the demographic potential of rural settlements is necessary. This article deals with the study of rational distribution of the rural population and rural clusters as well as their sustainable development in Lankaran-Astara. The author investigates the perspectives of rural settlements, and gives recommendations on the issue.
