Annotation. It is impossible to determine the future without knowing the history of the science of ge­o­gra­phy, without obtaining information about its paths. Re­search and in-depth analysis of the prehistory of science is a bridge connecting the past with the present. From this point of view, in the article, until the be­ginning of the 20th century, the history of studying the geography of the territory of Azerbaijan, the evolution of geographical conditions, the history of classical ideas about our country were not carried out. Looking at the scientific and technical achie­ve­ments achieved in the republic today, and the history of the dynamic development of the science of geography, it is not difficult to imagine how it was formed from simple ideas, reached the present cosmic and cons­tructive level, and played an important role in solving global and eco-anthropogenic problems in our life. The representatives of other sciences who par­ti­cipated in the development of geography science in Azerbaijan also made their prac­ti­cal and theoretical contributions to one degree or anot­her, all of which were systematically analyzed and inter­preted in the work.
