THE PRESENCE OF IRON SILICATES IN SOIL AND THE STATE OF FOREST VEGETATION IN DASHKESAN-GADABAY REGION

Abstract.

The development of the mining industry in the Dashkesan and Gadabay regions of Azerbaijan causes significant damage to forestry. The article is devoted to the study of forest degradation for the period from 1987 to 2019, as well as the determination of the relationship between the presence of minerals in soils and the state of the forest. The study is carried out using methods of remote sensing of the Earth and GIS technologies. Multispectral images of Landsat-5 and Land-sat-8 satellites are used as initial data. Methods of spectral and geospatial analysis were used for their processing. The SIPI spectral index is used to determine the state of the forest and its susceptibility to stress. Based on SIPI values, all forest areas are classified as healthy, damaged, or destroyed. To obtain data on the presence of iron silicates in soil, the corresponding geological spectral index Ferrous Silicates is used. Thematic maps are built on the basis of the calculated values. By overlaying these maps, the areas of locations of these minerals in forest areas of various classes are determined. Data processing over several years allowed to determine the dynamics of processes. Correlation analysis is also carried out to determine the similarity of processes in the two study areas. The results obtained are presented in tabular and graphical form.
