Annotation. The article gives a brief overview of methods for calculating the maximum water discharges of rain floods for ungaged rivers. For 19 rivers, calculations of maximum water discharges were made using the limiting intensity formula and the rational formula, which are used respectively in Azerbaijan and foreign countries. A comparative analysis of the results obtained was carried out. The main parameters of the maximum intensity formula are clarified and it is shown that in this case the median value of the calculation error using this formula is reduced by 18%. According to the results of calculations using the rational method, first used for the rivers of Azerbaijan, this reduction is 17%. As you can see, the accuracy of calculations by both methods is almost the same.

Keywords: Azerbaijan, small rivers, maximum water discharge, limiting intensity formula, rational formula
