TENDENCIES IN THE DEMOGRAPHIC DEVELOPMENT OF THE URBAN SETTLEMENTS OF THE REGIONS OF AZERBAIJAN

Abstract. The article analyzes the dynamics of population growth of cities and urban-type settlements of Azerbaijan. It was revealed that in 1999-2017 the share of the population of urban settlements was increased in all the regions of the country. The tendencies observed by the demographic development of the urban population of the regions, as well as the processes of natural growth and migration of the population are studied. It was revealed that in 2005-2010 rapid urban population growth happened due to natural increase and migration, which was driven by positive net migration, observed in the Baku agglomeration. However, in 2011-2016 years, there was a reduced growth rate, which happened mainly due to natural growth. The article includes recommendations on regulation of growth in cities and settlements.
