Abstract<\/strong>. The article study the impact of the orography on development of synoptic processes, leading to heavy rainfall and mudflow phenomena on the territory of Azerbaijan Republic. It was revealed that the mountain ranges in the study area, being natural obstacle, have a significant impact on the direction and characteristics of the invading air masses. It was determined that intense precipitation and mudflows are observed mainly during meridional processes. Particular attention is paid to the exposure of mountain ranges which are perpendicular to the prevailing direction of air flows. The nature and role of air features are established in the prefrontal warm mass before the cold invasion. It turned out that for all mudflow-forming processes in all layers of the troposphere, especially on the isobaric surface of 500 hPa, as well as 400 and 300 hPa, the value of specific and relative humidity significantly increased. The study found that in recent decades, intense convective processes occur in the foothills and low mountains, the vertical speed of rising air masses increases, unstable stratification is established, favorable conditions for the formation of cumulonimbus clouds and the fallout of mudflow-forming showers as a result of global warming. It was proposed to expand the network of aerological stations in all mudflow-prone regions, as well as on the trajectory of southwestern intrusions. In addition to the above, the idea of the influence of urban relief on an increase in the amount of precipitation was put forward on the example of the Baku aglomeration.<\/p>\n
