Abstract<\/strong>. The article defines the features of the set\u00adtlement of the rural population and its demographic de\u00advelopment, problems in this area, and ways to solve them in the Lankaran-Astara economic-geographical region. It also analyzes the dynamics of the number of rural gro\u00adups over decades and the population living in them. The\u00adrefore the village groups and their po\u00adpu\u00adlation play a vital role in settlement regulation, de\u00admographic development, and the territorial organization of the economic areas. Here, the population of 43.1% of the villages varies from 500 to 2,000. Approximately half of the rural population of the economic region is con\u00adcentrated in these villages. 11.5% of the rural areas of the economic region are rep\u00adresented by villages with a population of over 2,000 which settled population con\u00adstitute 41.2% of the total rural population.<\/p>\n

One of the main factors that play an essential role in rural settlement and demographic development is the so\u00adcio-economic status of the villages. Distinctively in the plains, where the population is more densely populated, in the mountainous areas retail and spontaneous villages are excess. This factor creates difficulties in the socio-eco\u00adnomic development of small mountain villages, in ad\u00addressing infrastructure and transportation problems. The taken measures to improve the socio-economic sta\u00adtus of villages in the economic region, in turn, have a po\u00adsitive impact on the formation and demographic de\u00advelopment of the rural settlement system.<\/p>\n
