The article is devoted to the method for determining the environmental flow of rivers based on the holistic approach. Brief information on the sig\u00adnifi\u00adcance of the ecological flow, on the existing methods of its assessment, on the mechanism of application of the proposed method in the basins of the Alijanchay and Shamkirchay rivers is given. It is shown that for the ri\u00advers of Azerbaijan a holistic method was developed for the first time using the results of field studies of the hydro\u00adlogical regime and hydromorphology of rivers, physic-chemical parameters of river waters, species of bottom river fauna and water use. The lack of such data on the basins of other rivers complicates the massive application of the proposed method.
