R.M.Mamedov,\u00a0 Sh.K.Azizov<\/strong><\/p>\n Abstract<\/strong>. The article is devoted to the study of the toponymic content of historical and geographical maps published in 1877, 1903, and 1931 by Russian topo\u00adgra\u00adphic cartographers. For a comparative analysis of topo\u00adnyms, maps of the mid-twentieth century and modern maps were also used, which reflect oikonyms, oronyms, and hydronyms of Azerbaijani origin in the territory of Western Azerbaijan (present-day Armenia).<\/p>\n The study of the dynamics of change of place names in Armenia using old and modern maps made it possible to reveal what goal was pursued by the policy of the Ar\u00admenization of Azerbaijani-Turkic toponyms during the 19th-20th centuries. The colonial policy in the South Caucasus had very grave consequences for the Azer\u00adbaijani people:\u00a0 the “Armenian region” was created in the western part of Azerbaijan; there was implemented the complete deportation of Azerbaijanis and destroyed at least 959 Azerbaijani villages; thousands of geo\u00adgra\u00adphical names (macro-, meso- and microtoponyms) were subjected to toponymic genocide; over the past two cen\u00adturies, two million of our compatriots have been mur\u00adde\u00adred; during the twentieth century alone, two million Azerbaijanis were expelled from today’s Armenia \u2013 Western Azerbaijan – from their historical lands.<\/p>\n \u00a0Keywords<\/strong>: historical and geographical maps, topo\u00adnyms, oikonyms, oronyms, hydronyms, genocide and deportation of the population, toponymic genocide, and aggression.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n REFERENCES<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/em>MAPS<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Publication Date: March 1, 2021<\/p>\n Download the article<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" \u00a0 R.M.Mamedov,\u00a0 Sh.K.Azizov Abstract.
